Personal

Outside work, there is a lot of work.

This page exists because a portfolio made only of finished work is not a very honest picture of a person. These are the things I do when nothing is shipping.

Gardening is slow work. You plant something, water it, and wait. Progress happens mostly while you are not looking.

It is a useful counterweight to software. Nothing deploys overnight, a plant either takes or it does not, and no amount of urgency changes the season.

Baking is where I get to be creative with my hands: mix things, combine them, and end up with something that did not exist an hour ago.

Part of the pleasure is stepping back for a few minutes to watch whether the process is actually going well. Sometimes it is not, and there is a batch to throw away and a method to adjust.

Running is the simplest thing on this page. No tools, no setup, no version number. Just a distance that is either finished or not.

Most of my better ideas arrived somewhere in the second half.
